Hero,

Where abouts in Texas do you live? I have 3 sisters and a step-mother who live or did live last time I heard from them (which was quite some time ago, you couldn't call us a really close family) lived in Tampa Bay, Florida. And yes I know that's nowhere near Texas, but at least it's in the same
country. So will we not be able to miss you when you put your hat and boots on then? I'm imagining a tall, tanned, well built Texan (as seen in the movies) with his ten gallon
hat and boots complete with spurs. Am I close or are you going to spoil the illusion? Just out of interest, do you like sports? American football? I am a bit of a follower of the 49ers. Ever since I saw Joe Montana play. Best quarter back, ever, if you ask me. I was so impressed with him I named one of my daughters after him, Montana. I never did understand baseball. I was more of a rugby, soccer and tennis gal myself. I used to play tennis when I was younger. I wanted to become a professional and play at
Wimboldon someday. That dream has long faded with age, LOL. You say that you travel alot in Asia, where abouts have you been to? China is my fist port of call but I am hoping to go to several other places aswell, Thailand, Malaysia,
Japan, Burma etc. As for speaking Chinese, I am still on sign language, so taxi chinese sounds almost fluent to me. We are planning to stay in China over Christmas and maybe work, we'll see. Don't really have anywhere to go to anyway. Sad but true. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you again
soon. Please feel free to write to me direct. Bye for now.

Hello Dan,

Go Long Yu I visited there alsmot 9 or 10 times. weekend, I rode my bicycle, then parked at pier side. I walked on Go Long Yu. Very quite atmosphere. I had one old man he lived there. His son worked in Hongkong as a barbarman. So I was his son's customer. We became good friend later. That time my co. Conair gave me every month go back Hongkong home twice . But I can not go twice. Every time I went back to Hongkong is on Saturday Friday morning. I arrived Conair office at 2:00PM. Talked and discussed with my manager. Then Saturday worked in office and Hongkong factory. On Monday I left Hongkong at noon, from HK to Xiamen no air ticket available, so I took ship.On the ship trip, very comfortable. There was movie and some music , bar drink service. Arrived Xiamen early morning of Tuesday. I immediately went to factory for work. The life was not bad. Then after I worked half year, my wife came to visit my work factory. When we walked
on Xiamen main streets. A lot of people walked together. When my wife and I were walking, we were arm in arm. But most Xiamen people, they walk ,men and women kept quite much distance. 99% people not arm in arm.If I walk with my wife, not arm in arm, we may feel not comfortable. Feel very unnatural. Then I asked the local people why the people walk not arm in arm ? The said this is their culture. Men and women in public social situation , must have firm form, not like overseas peoples' life form. I feel this is meaningless.I worked the factory had about over 150 assembly line workers. most were yourng girls and men. Most of them were school mates from one same vocational school. That age around 19-20. The girls were falling into to love but the youngmen just wanted to study more for future. So the girls and men were in different phase. The girls were more mature. When I should leave Xiamen factory, that time, someone
girl smiled behind me, that meant they knew, I should go back to meet my wife and do some romantic things there . They understand, but said no word to me. Just a small hint smile, understanding. I remain.
Regards.

Oly,

It is nice hearing your stories. I get around pretty good with my "taxi chinese". I can understand far more than I can speak. But I continue to learn each day. I am so busy at this time I cannot teach any classes. I may consider it after my Christmas Vacation in Texas. So I guess you have visited Gu Lang Yu. I have taken many pictures of this place. Other than Guilin, it is my favorite place to visit so far.
Take care,
Dan

Hello Dan,

When I was in Xiamen, that time our factory had evening university. I was a student. Many girls were careless to study. Many youngmen studied hard. I lived with 8 electronic engineers from Xian. Now part of them became my good friends. My co. agreed to buy one bicycle for me. So my transportation was very easy. I took a lot of slide in Xiamen. Almost every beautiful spot good for photography, I took. You also may take this chance to learn Chinese. Now I every week teach my USA colleague a few sentences in Chinese. He can speak very well, but only few words. It takes times. In Xiamen English teachers are very necessary. If the teacher comes from USA, are top welcome. Many students they worry that when they speak English, does the listener understand what he said or not ? So they want to to prove the accuracy. If you come from USA, they have more confidence. That time my co. let me
eat any restaurant. I had many times ate at Overseas Chinese Hotel Restaurant. In that restaurant, I found some friends they came from Hongkong. Because we exchanged our food and dishes. So we became friends.
I remain. Regards.

Olympaso.

Oly,

Hey pal thanks for the great advise. I have considered this. I have over 500 people working for me. I've considered holding English Classes at the factory. However, I'm not sure if they want to learn Texas English. Just kidding. I know a couple of people that are teaching at the Xiamen University. I may ask them about this. I usually hit the gym 4 days a week and have developed some Chinese friends there. This week I have many American Customers coming to Xiamen so this also keeps me pretty busy. I've only been here for four months. I am starting to learn the city more and am finding more entertainment. Thanks again and look forward to staying in touch.

Moon,

LOL. Actually I left my boots and hats in Texas. However I go home to Texas for Christmas and when I return after New Years, I may bring them with me. When I was young I use to Rodeo. :) I have worked for a company making graphite golf shafts, ski poles, arrows, baseball bats, etc for 14 years. I was hired by a Taiwanese company to build and manage a new and old factory in Xiamen. I understand the stares and pointing. Wait till I come back with my hat and boots. :) I have worn them before when I lived in GuangDong.
The food here is typical chinese. I can find nearly any asian cuisine including one of my favorite, Hunan. I like spicey since I lived in Texas which borders Mexico. I can speak spanish and not too bad at Chinese. I call it Taxi Chinese. :) I am hoping to go to Hunan over Chinese New Year but have to wait and see. My business causes a lot of traveling mostly in Asia. I love China but always look forward to meeting people who I can chat with in English. As Dorthy Gale (Judy Garland) said, "There's no place like home". :)
Dan
